Our Literary Heritage
Grove Publishers is one of the world's most distinguished independent publishers. Formed in 1993 by the merger of Grove Press and Atlantic Monthly Press, the house has maintained a fierce dedication to publishing quality literature that challenges boundaries and expands cultural horizons.
Atlantic Monthly Press, founded in 1917, has long been a home for distinguished American and international writing. Grove Press, established in 1951, became legendary under the leadership of Barney Rosset for its historic legal battles against censorship, successfully fighting to publish uncensored editions of Lady Chatterley’s Lover, Tropic of Cancer, and Naked Lunch.
Today, Grove Publishers remains independent and continues to publish a diverse list of fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and drama. We are proud to be the home of numerous Nobel Laureates, Pulitzer Prize winners, Booker Prize finalists, and National Book Award recipients.
